About David Martinez

In 2021, I did something I never thought I would do: I quit my full-time job to pursue magic as my sole profession.

For decades before that, I had worked as a copywriter and creative director in marketing and product design at high-tech companies in the San Jose / San Francisco Bay Area — including the last 17 years in various senior creative roles at Apple in Cupertino.

But for most of that time, I had also been doing magic on the side. And over those years, magic became my true passion. So when I quit to focus on magic, it was a logical next step.

​Today, people hire me to bring delight and amazement to their important events: company events, weddings, private parties, team-building activities, and more — mostly in San Jose, San Francisco, and throughout Northern California. Basically, anywhere people want to enjoy fun, sophisticated, surprising entertainment.

Over the course of my magic career, I've performed magic for some of the biggest companies in the world—including Apple, Google, Facebook, Amazon, Deloitte, Lyft, Uber, Comcast—as well as for hundreds of individuals, wedding couples, and families who brought me in to make their private events more special.

For many years, I served as president of the Silicon Valley Chapter of the International Brotherhood of Magicians (I.B.M. Ring 216). And I've won multiple awards for my magic. I am a magic expert on WikiHow, providing my knowledge and insights about magic to millions of WikiHow users.

​I'm a longtime San Francisco Bay Area resident. I attended school in Sunnyvale, and I received a bachelor's degree in English from U.C. Berkeley. In addition to writing for high-tech companies like Apple and Logitech, I've also written about baseball and other subjects for publication. I live in San Jose with my wife and two kids: a daughter, 21, and a son, 18.
