How much does a magician cost?

Written by San Francisco Bay Area magician David Martinez

When people contact me to perform magic at their event, often the first question they ask is, “How much does a magician cost?”

San Francisco magician David Martinez wows a group with close-up magic at an event in the Bay Area.

The answer is, it depends!

Here are some of the that will affect the pricing for magic at your corporate or private event:

Day of the week : Weekends are usually in higher demand than weekdays, and evenings are usually in higher demand than daytimes.

Time of year : The busiest time of year for many magicians is the Christmas holiday season, when companies hold their end-of-year parties. There are also schedule company picnics during summer and Halloween parties in October.

Type of event : Most magicians have different prices based on the type of event. For example, a small dinner party will likely have a different price point than a 1,000-person corporate event or a 12-year-old’s birthday celebration.

Type of performance : Many magicians offer several options for magic, including strolling magic in a cocktail or picnic environment, a stand-up/stage show for the whole group, a magic-themed team-building workshop, and custom offerings. Each option has different pricing.

Length of performance : A one-hour strolling magic booking has a different price than a full-evening event or a 30-minute kids show.

Location of event : Magicians may charge travel fees if they have to go a long distance for your event. Your magician should be up front about any potential charges. For example, I live in San Jose and perform all over the San Francisco Bay Area. If I have a long drive or a flight, I usually charge a travel fee.

Experience and skill of performer : A magician with 20 years of experience is going to charge more than someone just starting out in magic. You should find out about your magician and not only their experience not only in magic but also their experience with your type of event (corporate, wedding, kids show, etc.). Check magician reviews for more information.

Other expenses based on the performance : A magician may have to charge for prop rentals or supplies. For example, if you want your CEO to float in the air or appear magically as part of a show, your magician may have to rent the stage illusion and hire some backstage helpers for the show.

Bottom line

There is no “set price” for a magician. The price can range from $100 to $10,000 or even more.

What you should do: Once you’ve found a magician, talk to them about your event and make sure they understand your goals and other details. Your magician should be able to provide a custom quote based on all the factors described above.

As a San Francisco Bay Area magician, I am happy to provide a no-obligation quote for your event. I specialize in magic for corporate events , weddings , and private parties for adults and families.
